Jack Nicholson improvised one of the best scenes in The Departed, surprising both Leonardo DiCaprio and audience members. The story of The Departed follows Billy Costigan (DiCaprio), a police officer who goes undercover to infiltrate an organization run by feared criminal kingpin Frank Costello (Nicholson). Meanwhile, a member of Costello's gang, Colin Sullivan, infiltrates the police department to report its activities back to Costello. In addition to Nicholson and DiCaprio, the cast of The Departed includes Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, Vera Farmiga, Alex Baldwin, and Martin Sheen.
