FX's hit historical epic Shōgunwas originally billed as a limited series, but FX has officially renewed the show for two more seasons. Based on the eponymous novel by James Clavell, the story is loosely adapted from real-life events in 16th-century Japanese history that chronicles the rise of Lord Yoshii Toranaga, who secretly plots to become a powerful ruler in the country's feudal system. FX's 2024 series isn't the first time Clavell's novel has been adapted, and Shōgun made its TV debut in a miniseries back in 1980.
