What is perhaps the most divisive Alienmovie actually introduces the franchise's most important character since Sigourney Weaver's Ripley, but it unfortunately ends up wasting her. The first Alien movie was directed by Ridley Scott and was released in 1979. After the first film in the series, Weaver's Ripley became such a popular character that she was featured in three more Alien movies. However, 1992's Alien 3 and 1997's Alien: Resurrection did not receive particularly good reviews, which led to the franchise being stagnant for many years, other than the crossover Alien vs. Predator movies.
