Though Tim Burton has had a long career and his most successful film made a killing at the box office, it hasn't aged nearly as well as a 1999 made-for-TV movie that cost a fraction of Burton's budget. Tim Burton's movies have had wild swings in terms of success, with his heyday undoubtedly coming in the 1980s and early '90s, with classics like Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas (though Burton didn't direct), and Batman Returns. Since then, his career has been more sporadic, with highs like 2003's Big Fish, but also some real lows, like 2012's Dark Shadows, with the box office and critical reviews to match.

This 1999 NBC movie did it better.
