Marvel Studios' What If...? season 3 just reminded audiences of a controversial Phase 4 villain twist involving Sharon Carter. Emily VanCamp first appeared in the MCU as Sharon Carter, the niece of Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter, back in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier. After Civil War introduced an awkward romantic connection between Sharon Carter and Steve Rogers, whose long-lost love was Sharon's aunt, the former SHIELD agent mysteriously disappeared from the MCU, but returned with a twist in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
