The allure of a good thriller promises suspense, an engrossing mystery, and a satisfying payoff for those paying attention, whether toward its intricate plotlines or a particularly unique hook that sets itself apart. In the case of South Korean thrillers, this can often manifest in visceral action, deeply-explored central characters and their psyches and, although not always the case, transgressive themes that explore the problems faced by Korean society. One might never expect it from the original Webtoon series it adapts, but Netflix'sA Killer Paradox presents each of these elements while presenting its protagonist, a loser-turned-vigilante, as the product of darkly absurd dumb luck.
